We are in Les Houches in the shadow of the Mont Blanc massif. And very massif it is too…

The plan is to walk around it, through France, Italy and Switzerland. It is about 170K and, we are told, involves about the same amount of ascent and descent as climbing Everest. But we have the luxury of doing it over two weeks and without the constant fear of death. The weather is unusually hot and sticky but all that is set to change tomorrow as we set off. The forecast says thunderstorms.
